I’ve been wanting to do an on-going video project ever since I saw a piece from performance artist Damali Abrams titled “Autobiography of a Year” at El Museo del Barrio’s La Bienal. The girl inspired me to no end and I was deeply affected by her work. For 365 days she filmed herself in a different costume, speaking to the camera as of it where her best friend or twisted diary. She wrote, directed, edited, treated and costumed 365 videos for the 365 days she filmed. Her dedication and quite frankly her shamelessness has stuck with me.
I’ve been obsessed with the idea of experimenting with video for years now. I’ve shot tons of hours of footage but have been too chicken to publish. So, in a quest to begin releasing my video obsession out there into the universe and out from inside my over critical grip, I’m embarking on a 90 day challenge for myself. A quest to keep myself accountable to follow through and begin releasing more video content, even if it may be micro video content. 6 secs is a sweet spot anyway.
A Vine a day, everyday for 90 consecutive days, I’ll be Vining my cares away. Some days, I may just published one. Some days, it may be five. I’m just excited to see what comes out of it all. If there’ll be a signature style that emerges from my vines or if it’ll push me creatively. Since my first Vine on May 12th, I’ve been hooked to Vine and have been a huge advocate of the app. I’m excited to participate in the existing communities, memes and cultures that have formed on Vine. And I’m just generally interested to see how everything will evolve on the app in the long run.
I’d love if you’d find me on Vine under Lala Lopez and follow along with me for the journey. I will post my progress here from time to time, sharing my favorite Vines and findings. So here goes nothing – wish me luck!
