News of uber-publicist Kelly Cutrone’s new book and new network reality television show titled “Kell on Earth” has been swirling for months. Late last week, the cover of Cutrone’s book If You Have To Cry, Go Outside was released. This self-help book is due out on February 2nd, 2010 by mega publisher Harper-Collins. Although the Ashley Dupre/Yigal Azrouel incident is addressed, If You Have To Cry, Go Outside, is not one of those tell-all books. Instead, Cutrone equips young, fashion industry hopefuls with honest and valuable knowledge of the inner workings of public relations, fashion and career choices. She references quotes from the Wizard of Oz, the Bible and says “Its the village girl who will change the world.”
The myriad of Cutrone’s new media ventures demonstrates her clear understanding of what it takes to keep things relevant in ever-transforming fashion media. “There has been a complete change this year. Do I think, as a publicist, that I now have to have my eye on some kid who’s writing a blog in Oklahoma as much as I do on an editor from Vogue? Absolutely. Because once they write something on the Internet, it’s never coming down. And it’s the first thing a designer is going to see”, says Cutrone in a late 2009 New York Times article. With a brand new self-help book, two network television shows, a public relations company and unfaltering tenacity, Kelly Cutrone proves to be today’s leader in fashion media. #teamkelly
I love Kelly. Scratch that, I fucking LOVE Kelly. I think she carries herself really well and realistically. She says what’s on her mind and maybe isn’t always proper about it, but she doesn’t hide behind a bullshit smile and 6 inch heels that are pinching her feet.
I met her briefly backstage during NYFW and was just in awe of her strong pimp hand and the way she spoke to everyone with respect because she expected respect back. Not the usual ROAR ROAR ROAR RESPECT ME BUT I WILL NEVER RESPECT YOU! attitude. I really am looking forward to picking up the book and hopefully catching the TV show if Bravo ever gets themselves together and places it online properly.
I am dying to get my hands on a copy of this book. She appears to be such a thoughtful and considered gatekeeper when it comes to managing the image of fashion; rather than feigning a cool disinterest as so many seem to do. I can;t wait to read her insights… if nothing else, i’m sure they will be honest.
love your blog x
