Lala London: The Verdict on Topshop

There has bit of Topshop mania stirring back in the states. Recessionistas in New York have been impatiently waiting on the edge on their seats for the delayed opening of Topshop in Soho. The Topshop mania isn’t much different here in London. Women from all walks of life flock to the flagship store on Oxford Street. The store simply in itself is incredible. You can get manicures at the nail salon, satisfy your sweet tooth at the candy section, get your eyebrows threaded, enjoy entire floors of just accessories, just shoes, and just clothing. Nonetheless, after much rummaging through what seemed like at least 50 pieces of clothing in the changing room, I left pretty disappointed. The quality of the clothing was poor and the fabrics were cheap and synthetic. Consider Topshop to be the equivalent to H&M, but with better designs. They have a myriad of designer invitational collections, including Emma Cook, Peter Jensen, and Unique by Katie Grand. Although, I was not impressed by the clothing, I did happen to find these cute charcoal grey cut off gloves, £9.

  • I’m supposed to be working in the SoHo store, and a woman who was doing the interviewing said that people in the UK care less about the fabric and material and more about design. They’ll spend $100 on a faux leather bag, where as Americans judge the item based on fabric/material in correlation with price.
