Yesterday, we lost a legend and an icon. Michael Jackson warmed the hearts of people young and old. He revolutionized pop culture, music, fashion and dance. As we all watched on our television screens, Michael danced his way into our homes and became a part of our family. Growing up as an only child, Michael was like the cool older brother I never had. My father was such a huge fan and would often be the director of my version of Michael Jackson videos: Thriller, Beat It, Billie Jean, you name it I had all the moves down pact. Michael was a huge part of my childhood. Ironic enough being that he was an entertainer who had no childhood and just longed to have one. Wildly misunderstood and filled with inner turmoil, Michael suffered torment and ridicule. Yet, for true MJ fans, we always believed in him and stood behind him.

Back in 2001, when MJ performed at Madison Square Garden, my father did everything in his power to get us there. We both sat second row as I watched utter amazement as electricity sparked on the stage that Michael moonwalked on. People were fainting, men and women crying, complete strangers were holding hands as Michael performed. Every single person in the huge arena of Madison Square Garden united as this thrilling man brang joy into our lives. It was one of the most wonderful experience I’ve ever had. There is no one in my lifetime that could have had such a positive impact on this world. He was a pop star, a humanitarian, a pioneer. We have lost a luminary of style and kindness. We miss you Michael & you will never be forgotten.
