Two thousand nine has been such an amazing year. I’ve been blessed to visit three European fashion capitals this year, London, Milan and Paris. During my travels, I’ve been able to sharpen my own perspective on international fashion. There is always an aspect of fashion that makes us tick and tock. Without a doubt in my fashion-obsessed mind, femininity and power being conveyed through clothing is what keeps me going. Before we step into the Spring/Summer 2010 madness, I had to write a few words on Yiorgos Eleftheriades’ Fall/Winter 2009 collection.
With the exclusion of infamous fashion houses like Prada, Christian Dior, and Chanel, there are not many designers that rely strictly on the inspiration of the spirit of a woman to construct a feminine and powerful collection. While I am not certain that the woman’s spirit was Yiorgos inspiration, it is fair to say that his execution said just that. He created such a strong collection with pieces that were very much modern and pulled back the modernity to make truly classic pieces. The pieces shown during his Fall 2009 show are perfect for modern-day POWER WOMAN: The female CEO of that fortune 500 company who isn’t afraid to sport bold silhouettes and rock leather and wear fur like it’s nobody’s business; The confidence that oozes out of her perfect moisturized skin, courtesy of La Mer; The power woman that steps into a board room full of clueless men and comes out swaying opinions. The one making all the important decisions. Yiorgos took the 90s power woman and catapulted her up-to-date in the most desirable duds a gal could wish for.
