I subscribe to Diane Pernet’s A Shaded View on Fashion, so every morning I wake up to an email with her posts from the day before. She had posted some photos of her one day London get away, where she visited White Cube and the Yoko Ono: To the Light exhibition at the Serpetine gallery. On hazy days like this morning, I find myself thinking about being somewhere else. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t trade living in New York for the world but sometimes a break from the fast talking, the noisy crowded streets and smelly subway cars would be nice.
I’ve always had this very romanticized relationship with London since the day that I stepped foot out of Heathrow. There’s so much charm in those grey skies, the gorgeous architecture, larger than life museums and the fearless self-expression of the creatives in the city. I’ve completed some of my best personal writing in cafes in Brick Lane and on park benches in Soho. But while I’m stateside, my DVR is chock full of past episodes of HGTV’s Selling London, so I can imagine the type of lavish, multi-million dollar apartments that my future self will own when all of this hard work sees the fruits of its labor. It ain’t such a bad thing to daydream from time to time.
