To say that I love to travel, to wander and to adventure would be an understatement. I’ve even made my own city a destination of amazement and wonder. It’s just about finding those nooks and crannies that can excite you. But traveling overseas makes me feel like a princess spreading her wings in new, uncharted lands with much possibility for discovery of self and of new shoes.
The wonderful thing about traveling is that you have the opportunity to create an entirely new reality for yourself in your destination, with the clothes you’ve packed. It’s all in the details of the shoes and hats you wear in the restaurants where you’re served foods you’ve never tasted before. And its in the movements of your skirt when the seaside wind blows in your direction.
But coming down to earth for a moment, the truth of the matter is that preparing for an overseas trip is a great deal of work to ensure that you keep the fantasy alive in your wardrobe, beauty and experience. So let’s walk through how to be prepared for a dream-like getaway no matter where you’re going.
Plan Your Itinerary
Give yourself ample time before your trip to plan out what you want to see, do and eat. There are tons of travel sites that give great reviews, tips and ideas for what you may want to visit while your basking in the rays of your dream destination. The last thing you want to do is arrive at your hotel and have no idea what you want to see or where you want to go – you’ll just waste time that way. In the past I’ve used travel advice sites like Time Out, Le Cool, Trip Advisor and Lonely Planet.
Create a Packing List
For me, packing is an essential part of my trip. I want to make sure that I have just the right outfit for the right occasion and when you’re away – things are spontaneous and invitations may arise – so I always want to be ready for it. Before I put a thing in my suitcase, I just make a quick list of all the things that I’m going to need. I use it as a guide when I pack and tick off the items once they’re in my suitcase.
Don’t Forget Your Passport
The last thing you want to do is have your cab driver turn around because you left your passport on your vanity. I make two photocopies of my passport – I leave one in the safe at my hotel and leave the other in my wallet. Just in case, you want to be prepared if by any mammoth of a chance you lose your passport while you’re in your destination.
Just a few quick tips to get you prepared and ready for your travels swiftly, so you can enjoy the sights. What are some major things that you do when you’re preparing for an overseas getaway? Share your travel tips!
