As New Yorkers gear up for fashion week in the new Lincoln Center venue, we have a lot to look forward to in terms of Spring Summer 2011 collections. Copenhagen was the last city to show off their Spring 11 duds. There were hits and misses in Denmark but the hits were spot on. One of highlights was a modest collection from Copenhagen-based label Wackerhaus titled “Shuriken.” Adapting to the shapes ofswords of Yakuza men, there is structure given to oversized jackets with ostentatious lapels. Pants are tailored all the way down to belt loops while sculptural dresses are fantasized into an origami wonderland. The fanciful design is reinforced with strong color and fabrication that provides a vivid illustration of what modern & extravagant femininity is.
There is a great deal to look forward to with the Wackerhaus label within the coming seasons. You can shop previous collections at International Playground on 13 Stanton Street on the Lower East Side.
