When traveling, no matter where the destination, you want to bring things along that not only make you feel comfortable and home away from home – but make you feel luxurious while being away. I like taking trial size beauty samples from gift bags and trying out all the great, new products right before I’m going out or getting ready for the beach. But in any event, that you’ve run low on your beauty sample collection or are dying to get your hands on the best, new beauty products on the market that you want to become apart of your regular beauty arsenal, then you may want to give a subscription to Birchbox a whirl. I brought along the products for my May Birchbox on my trip to Puerto Rico and I’m glad I did. I smelled fantastic, was able to touch up chipped polish, and could fit everything in my carry-on with no security issues.
I had been hearing such wonderful things about the company from the fashion tech start community, here in New York. I was curious about what was making this start up such a sought after success. And even more alluring, I love the fact that Birchbox was founded by two driven women, Hayley Barna and Katia Beauchamp. The concept is quite clever and keeps customers on their toes. Once you’ve confirmed your monthly or yearly subscription, you get a delivery of a new Birchbox in your mailbox at the top of each month. And in each box, you get a sampling of beauty’s hottest nail polish shades, skincare, fragrance and make up product.
You then have the option to buy the full sized product – right on the Birchbox site, if you happen to develop a deep love with the new products in your Birchbox. For me, it was Color Club’s shade of Clambake Coral in May’s Birchbox that happened to be in collaboration with the CW’s Gossip Girl. I love all the how-to videos and product reviews that will have you glued to your desktop for hours. And their super informative magazine, called The Haute Box, gives you all the tips and beauty know how to keep groomed and gorgeous in any situation.
Birchbox’s growing success with a strong consumer following has allowed them to newly expand into the area of men’s wellness products. Now, you can order your man a Birchbox that’ll come to his doorstep every month – so he’ll never can tell you that his dry skin is a result of a low supply of facial moisturizer. Although, Birchbox has been around since September 2010, I really like the service and their editorial resources on their website. Some have commented that they wish there were more make up products made available each month. I think that’d be a nice option, especially considering the amount of money I spend on makeup on a regular basis. But with their smart collaborations and expanding services – I’m really looking forward to see where Birchbox goes next. Not to mention, I’m really looking forward to my June Birchbox – which is all about travel. And hey, tell me one person that doesn’t like getting a package of goodies sent to their homes every month?
