Editor’s Letter: January 2011

The new year is in full swing and we’re all moving right along, picking up where we left off before our holiday hangovers.

In retrospect, 2010 was a profound year. Right before our eyes, we watched an incredible shift of the fashion industry, as it delved into the advances of digital media. Some believe we reached a point of a democratized fashion world, where consumers can now dictate what we’ll see next. Through the heights of social media, mobile applications, crowd funding and curated commerce, we’re seeing the horizon of that pinnacle.

With the world spinning on its axis, without the miss of a single turn, its imperative that we keep our eyes open to all that surrounds us.

There is much excitement about what the year ahead will hold. But as for me, I just hope for further innovation. Where we all can contribute to make our culture, art and fashion infused with value and taste. Embracing social media as a second skin, rather than a good measure of influence by the count of our Twitter followers. Even a spike in calculated risk from designers we love, would be nice. But more importantly, a push from those designers to create pieces that speak from the voice that urged them to design in the first place is a necessity.

We’re off to a smashing start and the limit to where we may wind up is boundless. Let’s keep pushing and keep moving, so the exchange of ideas and inspiration remains constant.

Very Best Wishes in 2011,

Lala Lopez
