The first few days of Fashion Week in New York could have been classified as slow as molasses. Searching for innovation and fresh design was about as successful as looking for light in the dark. Yet, when walking into the Stoll Space in the heart of the garment center, as Kate Lanphear had arrived to a mob of frenzied fans, there a strong gleam of hope to witness something truly radical and inspiring.
Katie Gallagher’s Spring Summer 2011 collection confirmed that there are still designers readily willing to think outside the confines of commercial value and mass appeal. The collection titled “Arena” was skillfully constructed with exploratory technique and execution. Styled by fashion luminary, Kate Lanphear, proved that Gallagher is the young designer to watch advance further than the sea of than other design hopefuls that are reluctant to experiment.
Models stood atop cinder blocks, balancing out the collection’s concept while sporting the finest in Parisian footwear provided by Raphael Young. Sheer, tailored leggings, polished handbags and gripping proportions made Katie Gallagher’s Spring 2011 collection a most memorable assemblage this New York Fashion Week.
The red outfit with the handbag looks bare, but a great design nonetheless!
