NEW Equity Leadership Awards Luncheon

On Thursday, June 5th, I had the pleasure of attending the Non-Traditional Employment for Women Equity Leadership Awards Luncheon. NEW is celebrating 30 years of helping catapolting the lives and careers of thousands of women in the field of construction. They have been the strongest force in changing the traditional views of women in the workforce. This year NEW honored four outstanding individuals, Chris Erikson, Eileen Spinola, Rochelle James, and Cathie Black.

I had the privilege and honor of meeting one of my role models and NEW honoree Cathie Black. This fine businesswoman is the president of Hearst Magazines, who brings us publications like Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire, Oprah, and Harper’s Bazaar. Cathie Black was the first woman in history in 1979 to be named Publisher of a weekly consumer magazine, New York. She held high positions at publications like Holiday, Ms., USA Today, and New York. She has knocked down barriers and paved the way for young female professionals; inspiring the lives of so many with her take-charge sassy ways. Ms. Black’s first book entitled ‘Basic Black’ was an instant New York Times Bestseller and a book that I don’t know what I’d do without. Experience ‘Basic Black’, $25 bn.com
