I tend to be enthusiast in many vanes, but I’m not quite as enthusiastic about anything the way that I am about Twitter. I always feel very lucky to have such an amazing audience that I can interact with on a daily basis about literally everything under the sun. So, when Nokia extended an invitation to attend the 3rd Annual Shorty Awards, I was extremely elated.

It was truly incredible to see hundreds of Twitter users from all over the world, under one roof. Everyone having vast interests, concentrations and all using their passions as an agent for change, comedy, politic statements, and charity. The categories and their winners really opened my eyes to all the intriguing ways that people are utilizing the Twitter platform. Like @CoryBooker in the Government category, whom I was fangirling the entire evening. Or @Baratunde in the Foursquare Mayor of the Year category. Or the amazing @TrevorProject who have tweeted their way to spreading the message of their organization by ‘providing crisis and suicide prevention services to LGBTQ youth’.

Before the awards took place at the New York Times building, Nokia was kind enough to send me the tech packages of all tech packages – including the Nokia E7, the Shorty Awards invitation and an H&M blazer with my twitter handle embroidered on the jacket. (What a kick-ass gift.) So, I was tweeting and taking photos from my Nokia E7 device the evening of the Shorty Awards for the first time.

As an iPhone and Apple evangelist, I was a bit skeptical how that transition would play out. But after the first few minutes of getting adjusted panned itself out, I found that E7 had some serious perks that I hadn’t experienced with my iPhone. Like my social network timelines showing up in real-time on my home screen, along with my most recent received emails. I was able to keep up with other friends that were tweeting from the awards seamlessly. The camera and video quality was parallel to my iPhone. My only complaints were the battery life, which was short-lived and the lagging transition from app to app. I would have loved to use my Instagram app but sent the photos from my E7 to my iPhone 4 to upload. After using at the awards and daily for about a month afterwards, I found that the E7 was a great answer for the person who hasn’t been exposed to the experience of a smart phone, but my obsessive tech demands exceeded the device. Nonetheless, the E7 proved to be a great introduction to the world of smart phones.

A huge thanks to the Nokia and WOMWorld team for making my first Shorty Awards experience a truly unforgettable one.
