The Girl On The Go Guide

Most of my time is spent living the life of the girl on the go. I live in Fresh Meadows in Queens, my day job is in Long Island City and my boyfriend lives in the Upper West Side. So needless to say, I live out of my Reed Krakoff gym bag, roomy enough to fit my 13 inch Macbook, a pair of shoes and outfit for the next day if I’m spending the night at my BFs. But during the day, I hardly know where the day can take me, so I always have to be prepared. I keep my essentials ready to go like an arsenal ready for battle.

Wardrobe malfunction is always a factor, especially when wearing delicate vintage clothing, so I always keep at least two industrial strength safety pins, if a button pops, if a seam bursts, or if a blouse is too low cut for a meeting. (I suggest industrial strength because I’ve had my day with the flimsy drug store safety pins & if the material is heavy like a denim for instance, then it just may bend and not hold.) Then I have to keep a few pieces of double side tape readily available, too. Let’s say a hem comes undone, I’ve got it covered. Hey, you never know.

I keep a tiny chain purse filled with any medicinal needs, too. You don’t have to splurge on a fancy monogramed one either, I picked mine up for about a buck at vintage warehouse sale and inside is where I store all the goodies: a few spare b12 vitamins – if I forget to take them at home in the morning, a few Band-Aids by Cynthia Rowley, black bobby pins to secure loose ends and fly aways and peppermint essential oil. I’m always amazed at the wonders of peppermint oil, you can rub it on your temples and third eye to cure headaches and to stay alert after a long day or on your stomach, if you ate something that didn’t agree with you. Who needs to put chemicals in their body when you can go all natural?

And finally, you can’t forget a few beauty essentials. My go-to dream achiever in concealer is Smashbox’s ‘Camera Ready’ Full Coverage Concealer – it’s lipstick like application gives superb coverage on those dark undereye bags after late dinners out with friends and gives you a fresh face to touch up in between lunch and your next stop. And if you’re a matte lipstick-aholic like me, you have to keep those lips moisturized in between applications, to rid your smile of any dryness or cracks that can be visible when applying another layer of lipstick. So, I’m always slathering on Fresh’s Sugar Lip Treatment in Clear, the most moisturizing lip balm on the market. If your not crazy about Fresh, then you can also try my new favorite, OCC’s lip tar in clear. It’s extremely moisturizing, comes with a small brush applicator and can act as a primer before you slick on your lipstick. Just remember to let the tar dry a bit before you apply your shade.

If you keep these products stored away in your purse, you won’t be taking up too much room or weighing too heavily on your shoulder, either. Then, all of your girl on the go needs can be met. If you’re always on the dash, make sure you’re always prepared! Check out the links in the resources section for all the products we talked about in this post.
