The Global Cool

By default, we always tend to look towards other fashion cities for style referencing. I went through a Stockholm phase for while. I was enamored by the offbeat silhouettes that had been unlike anything I had seen on New York City sidewalks, at the time. And I’m still very much in love with Italian style, in its precise tailoring and classic ways that always find its way in some style of dress of mine. I’ve never been one to lose my head over anything more than the out of the box concepts and styles on the streets of London. From the avant garde to the grunge or tailors on Savile Row, that’s where I find my heart melting the fastest.

But as more and more Parisian labels have made their stake in the American visibility and fashion consciousness – I’ve really grown to love the effortlessness of that Parisian cool. That cool that cannot be imitated or duplicated but any other intruding city or mind state. Of course, there’s the Isabel Marants, the Vanessa Brunos and historic Carvens of the Parisian cool realm. And never to discount their brillance but I’m more affectionate towards to the new French Kids on the block.

Sandro and Maje speak to my dear fashion soul that runs deep- with their focus on easy, youthful numbers in a language that I can actually afford. These LVMH backed brands have the winning formula of quality, style and cool that charm me over every time I make my way into their stores or shop-in-shops in Bloomingdale’s. There’s something to be said about new labels that consistently nail season after new season.

Then there’s Sessun, a more under the radar label that puts a smile on my face everytime I see their pieces or read their darling blog. Now, Sessun has more of that sweetheart charm factor that is so easy for me to relate to. And at the moment of setting eyes on their range of RTW, shoes and accessories, you feel like when wearing them, you are the prettiest princess or alternatively the subject of your favorite Lula editorial.

With all of this said, whether you fetch your inspiration from your grandma’s closet or from your favorite street style blog or even from a trip to a new city that you’ve never been before – we all can take style cues from wherever we see fit. Style is everywhere and its that lawless space where you’re free to make and break all of your own rules.
